Hello!  My name is a Katrina Harris and I am a travel agent specializing in Disney destinations.  So, when Kim put out the call for a week of Disney posts – I new I had to be in like Flynn 🙂  Unfortunately – I am so not a crafty person.  I don’t have cool ideas for a Disney themed birthday party.  Or a Minnie dress sewing tutorial.  Or even an easy way to decorate your cupcakes like Mickey’s head.
DIY Spiral Head Mickey Shirt - using just flour, water and fabric paint, make this fun shirt for your next Disney Trip!

But…what I do know is Disney.  Like the back of my hand.  I know great places to stay.  I know amazing places to eat.  I know why your little ones will love EPCOT even if you think they might not.  I know how and where to find your favorite characters.  I know how to get you the best deals. And I know how to make just one craft – Spiral Mickey Head T-Shirts

The perfect way to make matching t-shirts so you’ll look spectacular in your family photos.  (And I know how you can get photos of the whole family at Disney – you included – at a discount!)

Supplies Needed:
White cotton t-shirts (find ones with the  most flattering fit rather than the least expensive!)
A squeeze bottle (I bought a Wilton one from the cake decorating aisle)
Spray fabric paint
Cardboard (for inside your shirt so the colors don’t bleed through to the back)
Flour
Water

Instructions:
First mix your flour and water together until it has the consistency/thickness of mustard and add it to your squeeze bottle.  You can test it out on an old towel – especially if you need to see how hard (or soft) you need to squeeze that bottle.

Next, make a spiraled circle for the head and then two smaller spirals for ears on your shirt.  Be careful of your placement of the ears!  You don’t need…ummm…headlights.  I prefer a v-necked shirt – so I usually have the top of my head spiral meet the v of the neck – and then my ears are above the headlights.  We have also done asymmetrical shirts, too – with the spiral Mickey heads wrapping around the side of the shirt.

Don’t worry if your circles aren’t perfect – you can see that mine certainly are not.  But if you are not happy – or your circles are not where you’d like them to be – there is an easy answer.  Just wash your shirt – the flour will come right off and you can start over!

Leave shirts to dry.  If it’s a sunny day, you can put them outside and they’ll dry quickly.  Inside, you might need to wait as long as 24 hours.

Once the spiral is dry – you are ready to spray.

You can do one color.  Or multiple.  And can do something different for everyone. Or, if you are a bit OCD like my mom who doesn’t like the idea of unorganized spatter, you can use fabric paint for your spiral and paint your Mickey head.

After the paint is dry peel off the spiral of flour and water.  It cracks and is sometimes easy to peel – and sometimes you have to really work it off.

When you are done, you’ll have some fabulous shirts.  Pop them in the washer head to Disney and snap some fabulous group photos.
