Memorial Day is just around the corner and I am so darned excited! We’ll be taking a long weekend for a camping trip with a bunch of family and it is sure to be a blast. Anything will be better than last years trip where it rained the majority of the time… and when it wasn’t raining, it snowed!

DIY Patriotic Burlap Bunting Since I am so ready for our trip I decided to make a burlap bunting we can add to our campsite in celebration… although my flag loving son has been trying to steal it for his room, so we’ll see where it ends up!

I won a bag of supplies from FloraCraft when I was at Snap Conference, so this was the perfect project to use the burlap and twine that was in the bag!

Want to make one for yourself? Here’s how:
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Burlap (I used a 4.5″ wide roll of Burlap Garland)
Red, White & Blue Acrylic Paint
Foam Pouncer
I created a stencil for the shape of the bunting pieces, the stars and the stripes. You can choose to free hand onto cardstock and cut using an xacto knife or use a cutting machine, such as a Cricut Explore (affiliate link for your convenience).

Cut 6-8 pieces of burlap – I went 4.5″ wide by 7″ tall. Fold it in half and 2″ from the bottom, from the fold, cut in a diagonal line to create the flag shape.
Paint the top 1.5″ of the banner blue – I used a foam pouncer for all of the painting.
Using the stripes stencil, paint on the red stripes – I chose to go vertically.
Once I finished all the stripes, I grabbed the first bunting piece that I painted and stenciled on the stars.

Next we are going to sew the pieces onto some twine. Don’t sew? No problem! Just use hot glue!

Line the top of the bunting with the twine and then using a zig zag stitch, sew the two together.

I put about 3-4 inches of space between each piece.

You’re done! Now hang and admire!
