Our daycare provider Janine is so creative! She has lots of young kids every day and I am always amazed at the fun things that they accomplish. My children aren’t there full time anymore because they are in school, but I love seeing what she does with the other little ones throughout the day. Last week she did an Apple activity with the kids that is perfect for young kids. I knew my daughter would enjoy it as well, so I created a “How many seeds in an apple?” sheet and during her snack we began our investigation!

First I had her guess how many seeds she believed would be in the apple and then we cut the apple in half to find out the truth!

Apple Activity WorksheetDo you know how many seeds are in an apple? The answer? It varies depending on the health and vigor of the fruit! An apple has 3-5 seed chambers that can contain 1-2 seeds each.

I love when kids get excited to explore and learn. My daughter was so excited when she saw me cutting an apple and noticed the sheet nearby. “Mom! What are you doing? Are you going to color that? Can I help you?” So I told her what the plan was and she couldn’t wait to count the seeds and color her apple. Isn’t that one of the joys of childhood? Everything is new and wonderful!

Personal use only. Do not alter.

This would be perfect for students that are visiting an Apple Orchard, or even just to entertain your little ones at snack time! Cut open an apple and remove all the seeds. Have the child count all of the seeds and write them number on the sheet. Then glue the seeds onto the sheet. And if you’re looking for a little extra fun, go ahead and color in the apple and draw a few more!
