Every year we carve our pumpkin as a family. This year I decided to make it easier on all of us and give the drill/beater pumpkin gutting trick a try and I am never going to gut a pumpkin any other way again! This trick literally cut the carving time in half. And an added bonus? No freezing hands! If you live in a cold climate, you know the feeling of gutting a pumpkin that wasn’t brought in to warm up first… and I always forget to bring the pumpkins in before we carve!

Pretty amazing, right?

CARVING PUMPKINS

If you haven’t heard about using a drill to gut a pumpkin, keep on reading. It really does make the tast easier.

Simply remove the bit from a drill and insert a beater from a blender.

The easiest way to gut a pumpkin

Cut the top off of a pumpkin like usual and then use the beater against the sides to remove all of the pumpkin innards. Make sure to put a nice bit of pressure on the drill, but don’t scrape so much that it punches through the wall of the pumpkin.

It took about 4 minutes to get all of the gunk off the inside of our pumpkin.

Next, turn the pumpkin over and empty all of the seeds, and as much of the gunk, as possible. Using a spoon or your hands, scoop out the remaining innards that are stuck to the bottom. Voila! Your pumpkin is ready to be carved.
