Last week I shared my Patriotic Wooden Spoon Dolls in The Ribbon Retreat’s monthly Blogger Competition. I’ve been wanting to make spoon dolls for a while now – actually since my daughter’s birthday where she chose to go to McDonald’s for a McFlurry and I saw the spoons and thought they would make awesome dolls! HA! You’ll never know when inspiration will hit! When The Ribbon Retreat sent me the box of Patriotic themed goodies I wasn’t sure if I could make the dolls work, but my daughter had got wind of the idea and encouraged me to try, so I sat down one day with the supplies that were provided and realized that I could definitely use them to make some super adorable Patriotic Wooden Spoon Dolls and honestly, I couldn’t be more in love with them!
These pint sized dolls are easy and inexpensive to make and today I’m going to show you how I did it! You’re little one will thank me if they’re anything like my 7 year old who has been playing with these for the last 2 weeks straight! They’ve even made it to school and daycare and were a hit in both places.
SUPPLIES: All supplies were provided by The Ribbon Retreat
Tulle
2″ wide Lace Ribbon
Assorted ribbons
Markers
Embroidery Thread
Wooden Spoons
Hot Glue
First, draw some legs and shoes with a marker onto the backside of your spoon. Draw on a face and hair as well.
To make the skirt, cut four 2″x2″ pieces of tulle and place in a pile.
Cut a 2″ piece of lace ribbon.
Place the pile of tulle on top of the ribbon and cut a small slit in the center of all 5 layers.
Slide the spoon through the slit.
Hot glue the skirt into place, bunching as you adhere it to the spoon so as to mimic a skirt.
Using ribbon create a shirt by gluing it around the spoon.
Feel free to add an adorable belt with a smaller piece of coordinating ribbon!
Lastly, add on some hair using embroidery floss. I simply hot glued it to the back of the dolls head to secure it in place.
Aren’t these just the sweetest? I promise that you’re little one is going to have tons of fun playing with these miniature dolls!
