If you’re looking for an easy way to store drawings, paintings and sketches, this project is perfect for you. A quick and simple DIY Art Portfolio is an easy way to keep artwork organized and stored away so that it can be enjoyed for many years to come. Using materials from around my home and in my craft studio I put together this Art Portfolio in about 20 minutes. It is very easy to customize and can be made as simple or complex as you want. Use paints, markers, paper, tape, ribbon or other embellishments to create a truly unique portfolio.
To make this DIY Art Portfolio you will need (affiliate links for your convenience):
Cardboard
8.5 x 11 Corrugated Cardboard Cutouts
Small Corrugated Cardboard Cutouts
Twine
Duct Tape
Glue Gun
Paint
Flowers, Buttons and other embellishments
DIRECTIONS:
First, find a cardboard box and cut out two pieces that are sized about a 1/2″ bigger than the artwork you plan to store in size. This example is 9″ x 12″.
Place the two pieces together and use a strip of Duct Tape to create the spine.
Open it back up and do the same for the inside.
Close the portfolio and start to decorate!
Using liquid watercolor in a spray bottle, spray the cover as desired. I also used one of the corrugated cardboard hearts like a stamp by spraying it with the paint and stamping onto the cover. Glue on some embellishments and decorate the cover with a marker, pen and ink or other medium. If desired flip over and do the back.
Once the cover is decorated, measure out a length of twine – wrap it around the portfolio three times and tie in place. This will keep the portfolio closed, and also adds an extra embellishment.
Simple, inexpensive and the perfect artwork storage solution! Doesn’t this look like a great camp activity for teens and middle school children?
