Every Thursday after school my children take the bus to my parents house where they bake with my mom. It is something they look forward to each week. I absolutely love that they have such an amazing relationship with both of my parents. Last week they baked Whoopie Pies. My oldest called me at work giggling and told me, “We’re making Whoopie Pie’s with Memere and Mason and Olivia missed heard. They thought they were called WOOKIE PIES – and I have the best idea! We can turn them INTO Wookie Pies!” I absolutely loved the idea and immediately knew how we could pull it off… and here is the end result:

Fun, right?

Wookie Pies Recipe

If you or someone you know are a Star Wars fan and you want to celebrate the new movie release coming this December, then these are the perfect treats to do so! They’re easy to make and don’t take long at all… mostly because I cheated and made them using cake mix and pre-made frosting! You know me, I’m all about simple. Let’s get started!

Wookie Pies Ingredients

Devil’s Food Cake Mix
Whipped Frosting
Tootsie Rolls
Marshmallow Bits

Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

Line cookie sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking liners.

Follow the directions on the cake mix.

Pour batter into a 1 gallon plastic bag. Seal the bag and cut a small hole in one of the bottom corners.

Pipe batter into small circles on the cookie sheet, leaving at least 1″ between circles.

Bake 10-12 minutes until set. Don’t overbake. Remove from cookie sheets and place on cooling rack. Allow to cool completely before adding filling.

While cookies cool roll out several Tootsie rolls to about 3″ long or long enough to reach across your Wookie Pie. Cut into thin strips, about 1/4″ wide. (NOTE: I thought this would be easier to do by warming the Tootsie Rolls in my hand for a moment, but that made them sticky, so I recommend sticking with room temp!)

Using frosting as a glue, adhere the mini-marshmallow bits to the strip to create the Wookie Bandolier.

Once the cookies are completely cooled, attach the bandolier to the top of one cookie with just a tad of frosting.

Spread frosting on the flat side of the other cookie. Top with the bandolier cookie, flat side down to create a sandwich.

Repeat until all Wookie Pies are complete.
