DIY Clay Fish Fan PullsToday I’m going to share with you how I made the adorable Clay Fan Pulls for my daughters Mermaid Room. These are simple to make, and can be done in any shape you can think up!

Supplies Needed:

Hard Bake Clay – I prefer Sculpey

Toothpick or Pointy Clay Tool

Fan pull chain

First, condition your clay until it is soft and malleable. (This means pulling, rolling and flattening the clay so that it is workable!)

DIY Clay Fan PullLet’s make the body: roll a ball about 1″ in diameter and then turn it into an oval.

DIY Clay Fish Fan PullNow on to the tail: Roll a .5″ ball and press it flat, about 1/4″ thick.

DIY Clay Fish Fan PullCut the tail into a “pacman” shape.

DIY Clay Fish Fan PullPress the tail onto the body.

DIY Clay Fish Fan PullRepeat the same process as the tail for the lips, but only make a 1/4″ diameter ball.

Clay Fish TutorialTo make the dorsal fin: Roll another ball about 1/4″ in diameter and then shape it into an oval and add some hashmarks.

DIY Clay Fish Fan PullPress the dorsal fin to the top of the body.

DIY Clay Fish Fan PullRoll out 1/4″ ball, flatten and shape into a triangle shape for the bottom fin.

DIY Clay Fisn Fan PullPress the bottom fin to the bottom of the fish.

DIY Clay Fish Fan PullTo create the eyes: Roll out small white balls and press flat. Place on either side of the head.

Clay Fish Fan Pull TutorialRoll out tiny black balls, press flat and then place into the white circles to create the pupils.

DIY Clay Fan Pull TutorialRoll out tiny balls of clay, press them flat and add them onto either side of the fish for embellishment.

DIY Clay Fish Fan PullLastly, create a hole through the top of the dorsal fin and into the body of the fish using a toothpick or other pointy tool.

DIY Clay Fan PullRemove the ball chain from your fan. Remove the current fan pull from the chain using wire cutters or scissors. Press the end of the chain into the hole you created, making sure to get it all the way into the body. Gently squeeze the dorsal fin around the chain.

DIY Clay Fish Fan PullsPlace in the oven and bake according to the directions on the box – mine went in for 1 hour at 275 degrees. Once cool, attach to your fan and you’ve got yourself an adorable, custom fan pull!
