I am dying with excitement. We listed and sold our home last week and will be breaking ground on our new house on April 1! Come July we’ll be moving into our beautiful new forever home. I’ve been waiting for this for about 2 years. It took that long for my husband to get on board the new house train. But now that we are there, I am dreaming of shaker cabinets, and natural stone counter tops (BTW – Soapstone or Granite?! I’d love to hear from people that have either!), soaker tubs and the perfect wall colors! We have our house plan picked out, but we still need to meet with the architect to make some changes, most notably adding a 4th bedroom suite for my oldest daughter and of course, adding a craft space for me!
My husband and I have started a “wants”, “needs” and “questions” list, so anytime something pops into our head, we have a place to write things down. Wants are things that we really hope we can get in the house, but we do realize we won’t be able to get them all. Needs are things like a kitchen island, mudroom and NO CARPET – things we’ve learned from our current house that we can’t live with/without. We are new to house building, so anytime a question comes up, like, “Will there be shrubs or a fence around the retaining pond”, we write them down so we can ask them of the developer at our next meeting.
So there is a lot of excitement around our house. To help me start planning the look of my house I’ve been pinning some fun things to my “When we build…” Pinterest Board. I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite home ideas for others that may be planning a new house as well!
Pull out pantry and linen closet drawers
I can’t find the original source for this, so please share in the comments if you know!
Pots and Pans Cabinet Organizer
Vertical Kitchen Cabinet Storage
If you’re pantry shares a wall with your garage, this is the best hack EVER!
This puppy moves up and down to hide away when not in use!
We are going to add one of these to each bedroom, one in the kitchen, living room and family room
These would be perfect in a dark hallway, bathrooms and kids rooms!
Simple Board & Batten for under $80
Above is a DIY from Ana White, but their are vanities that come with this as well.
Great job with the lists. That’s a wonderful way to get things organized. Also, the “no question is dumb” applies. Ask away.
Although this made me chuckle: ” breaking ground on our new house on April 1 [and moving in] July….” We have built 3 homes and it NEVER goes according to plan. Make plan B/C/D in case your home is not ready in time. This last time we had to spend 6 months in an apartment. Hopefully, your home will be ready in time and you won’t need those plans. =)
Have a wonderful time building your home.
We’re trying to be optimistic! Our builder has been on track with all of the houses so far, only one when two weeks over, so fingers crossed. 😉 HEHE
