I am so excited to write this post! My blogging friend Katie from Made to be a Momma, and my roomie at Snap Conference, wrote a book entitled Kids’ Treats: 50 Easy, Extra-Special Snacks to Make with Your Little Ones. I bet you’ve probably come across one of Katie’s Kids’ Treats – her Oreo creatures have blown up all over Pinterest and Facebook! She has so many adorable ideas and she compiled 50 of them into this awesome cookbook.
I love the fact that these treats and snacks are easy enough for a regular person to pull off and still be cute. No extraordinary skills necessary! I am a firm believer of allowing your kids into the kitchen for some life skills and bonding time and this book provides you plenty of opportunities to do just that! As soon as the book came in, my kids and I sat down together and flipped through it. In the picture above you can see the three treats they picked as their favorites, though they marked at least a dozen that they wanted to try! Any book that gets my kids excited to try something new in the kitchen is a win!
For our very first project from the book we ended up making Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches. I put the ice cream into the cookies and my daughter rolled them in sprinkles. It was so easy to do and my daughter that it was so cool to make dessert for my brother and his family. We literally whipped up a dozen of these in about 6 minutes and finished just as my brother and his family walked through the door, so no pretty glamour shots of the end result. But that is what is so cool about this book – simple recipes you can pull off last minute and still impress those that are going to be eating the delicious treats! The next recipe on our list is a bit more work, but oh so adorable – the Oreo Penguins! And honestly, I’m not too worried because the step-by-step instructions will walk me through the process, and the big, beautiful photos will help me along.
Kids’ Treats: 50 Easy, Extra-Special Snacks to Make with Your Little Onesis out now and can be found at both Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
