I am pretty excited about this new product I’ve recently learned about by Core’dinations. It is a glitter paper – that you can PRINT ON! And no, this glitter paper won’t ruin your printer because the glitter doesn’t flake – there is a layer coating it in place, yet it still shines through the ink. To test it out I made a Glitter Peace Banner that is perfect for the Holidays, and the best part? All of it was created wit the same paper! Isn’t that awesome? So many looks with one pad of paper.

GLITTER BANNER DIRECTIONS:

The first step is to create the pennant pieces of the banner. I printed “PEACE”, one letter per 8.5×11 sheet of InkJet Glitter Paper, on my home printer. I used my Banner Punch Board to cut out the pennants, but you could easily use your Cricut Explore or even a ruler, pencil and scissors!

DIY Pennant Punch BoardOnce I had my base pieces, I got to work on the bows. In a design program I wrote “Merry Christmas” over and over in a pretty script font and printed it onto the InkJet Glitter Paper. I then used my Bow Punch Board to create the paper bow. If you don’t have a punch board I found this Free Bow Template that will help you create one. I hot glued the bow on to every other pennant.

DIY Paper BowLastly, I used Cricut Design Space to print some blue snowflakes and then cut them out with my Cricut Explore. I bent the snowflakes to give them a 3D effect and hot glued them to the bottom of the banner.

DIY Glitter SnowflakesI threaded some blue yarn through the pennants and called it a day.

DIY Glitter Banner Project IdeaI love the sparkle. It certainly doesn’t look like it was printed on – it looks like the ink was there before the glitter was added. And I LOVE the fact that I didn’t have glitter all over my house after working with this paper. DIY Glitter Paper BowDIY Christmas Banner

I struggled whether or not to share this next part, but in the end decided I wanted to. The idea to create this banner was due to the fact that my Memere had entered hospice care due to Ovarian Cancer. She was at home living out her last few days surrounded by family and friends. She had accepted her fate but was saddened that she would not experience her favorite holiday one last time. Since she wouldn’t be around for Christmas, we decided to bring Christmas to her. It was a last minute idea, but 30 family members showed up at my grandparents house at 1:00 on a Sunday. We gathered outside and began to sing Silent Night. On the second verse we entered through the 3 different entrances and gathered around her hospital bed, which was located in the living room, next to my Grandfather’s hospital bed. My grandfather was sitting by her side holding her hand. It was such a moving moment and there were many, many tears shed. She laid with her eyes closed listening to her family sing some of her favorite Christmas songs. Tears were flowing freely, but we wanted to bring her this joy, one last time. I made this banner about an hour before we were suppose to meet and my children held it as we sang. We left it afterward so that it could be hung where she could see. My Memere passed away four days later. The banner continued to hang in it’s place and I heard from my Aunt that it was something my Pepere really loved and he requested that it not be removed. I’m happy that it is something that he looks on so fondly and something that brought me joy to make, brings him a measure of peace.
