“This too shall pass” is a phrase my Mom has always used when there is something trying going on in our lives. It is a great reminder that there is light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully you’ll come out the other side. I thought it would be a great phrase to put on a shirt – we see so many people in a day, many of whom may be going through a silent struggle that you know nothing about, so why not give them a bit of reassurance without even knowing it? You know I love to share, so keep reading to learn how I made this DIY Graphic Tee and to get the free SVG cut file!

I made the shirt using my Cricut Explore Air 2 and Flocked Heat Transfer Vinyl (affiliate links for your convenience). I love making custom t-shirts because it is typically a simple and inexpensive project, and you get one-of-a-kind results! Really, if you can think it up, you can create it.

For this shirt I created the design in Adobe Illustrator and exported it as an SVG file, which I then uploaded into Cricut Design Space. I inserted it into a new file, selected all of the elements and attached them. I then set the canvas to a t-shirt and sized the design to fit the plain black shirt that I purchased. Once I was done with the file I sent it to my Cricut, making sure to mirror the image before cutting.

Once the vinyl was cut, I weeded out the extra vinyl. I placed the vinyl onto the shirt and followed the instructions to iron it onto the shirt.

ALTERNATIVELY, IF YOU DON’T HAVE HEAT TRANSFER VINYL: you can also use freezer paper as a stencil! Place the freezer paper shiny side down onto your cutting mat and send the image to cut (do NOT mirror image it). Weed out the additional pieces. Place the freezer paper onto your shirt and iron into place with a cotton setting. Hand place the extra pieces (such as the inside of the 0’s and again iron into place. Place a piece of paper on the inside of the shirt to prevent bleeding to the back of the shirt and use fabric paint to paint the stencil you created. Let dry and peel up the fabric paper and voila!
