Have you ever made a yarn doll? Well I took that idea, gave it a spin and came up with these adorably crazy DIY Yarn Monsters! They’re soft and full of personality and kids go ga-ga for them! Craft up a silly horde with your kiddos and they’ll have tons of fun playing with them. And I can guarantee their friends will want to learn how to make them as well!
I think these would be so fun turned into a garland! Hang in a bedroom or use at a Monster Birthday Bash!

Yarn (we decided we liked the Folklore yarn because it made thicker, fuller monsters)
Pipe Cleaners
Google Eyes
Scissors
Cardboard (like a cereal box)
Glue Dots or Hot Glue
Cut a piece of cardboard to about 4″ x 6″. Wrap yarn around it lengthwise about 100 times and cut the yarn from the skien.
Choose a pipecleaner to create horns. Thread it under the yarn at one side.
Wrap the pipecleaner up over the yarn and twist it together.
Carefully remove the yarn from the cardboard.
Cut a length of yarn, approximately 8″. Pull it tight and tie in a double-knot about 1/3 from the top.
Tighten the pipe cleaner to create a nice round head.
Slide scissors through the bottom loops and cut to create tentacles.
Give him a haircut, trimming any longer threads.
Using glue dots or a dab of hot glue, add on eyes.
Want to give your monster a mouth? Simply tie a double knot of red yarn around several strands of yarn on your monsters face. You can do the same for hair – just cut the length a bit longer.
That’s all there is too it! Now have fun playing with your fuzzy little friend!
