Have you ever heard of Aliens Love Underpants, the children’s book? I found it recently at our school book fair and brought it home for Mason.  Let me tell you, it has been quite the hit!  It really is a cute, silly story, and the pictures are so bright and fun. It was a great inspiration for an Alien Felt Craft.
I love finding a story that really inspires or captures a young child’s attention and then create something based on it.  After brainstorming some ideas, I decided that a no-sew silly felt alien craft that would be a great and entertaining project. I ended up with something that will hold the kid’s interest while running errands and is a great quiet time activity.

This is also a craft that the kids can help make!

FELT KIDS CRAFT

SUPPLIES:

9×12 Felt Sheet

Felt Scraps

String or Yarn

Ribbon (optional)

Scrapbook Brads (optional)

Glue Gun

Scissors

I didn’t have a full sheet of felt so I cut a 9×12 rectangle out of felt by the yard that I had on hand.

I used black strips of felt to bind the edges.

Mason cut out the shape for the alien and then we both got to cutting out additional shapes that serve as facial and body parts for the alien.

Add googly eyes to some of the pieces.

The black pieces are going to be the binding.

Using a glue gun, adhere the binding to the background felt.

Next glue the body to the background felt.
Using string, create a clothesline/

Using felt scraps, cut out underpants and add ribbon for the waistband.

Use scrapbook brads as clothespins and glue the whole thing to the background piece of felt.

Cut different shapes of different sizes and colors that your child can use to build an alien – you’ll want pieces for eyes, ears, nose, arms, legs, antenna, etc.

Mason had a blast making all sorts of alien creations:
I’m considering gluing a pocket to the back to hold all the pieces,  but for now they are stored in an envelope.

If you are stuck on a gift idea for a young child in your life, go grab a colorful, fun story and create a fun activity to go along with it!
