Todd wanted some plain white ones for work, which I hadn’t gotten around to making yet. While out shopping we found a package of cotton Hanes brand face masks for super inexpensive and decided to grab them. Turns out they are really comfortable and they’re such a clean slate that I couldn’t help creating a custom face mask with iron-on vinyl!

DIY Custom Face Mask with Cricut

Spread Kindness Face Mask

After settling on an idea for the custom face mask, I headed into Adobe Illustrator and created the design and saved it as an SVG, which I’m sharing at the bottom of this post. An SVG file can be uploaded into a cutting machines design software so that you can tell your machine to cut the design out of material of your choosing.

Spread Kindness DIY Face Mask

I have a Cricut Maker, so I uploaded the SVG into Cricut Design Space. Once inserted onto the mat, do the following:

  • Select the design and click UNGROUP.
  • Select “Spread” and choose the color you want it to be, I chose pink. Do the same for “Kindness”.
  • Click on “Spread” and then click WELD.
  • Click on ” Kindness” and then click ATTACH.
  • Click on MAKE IT.

I loaded glitter pink iron-on vinyl into the machine for “Spread” and black iron-on vinyl for “Kindness,” making sure to mirror the image so that when I ironed it onto the custom mask the words wouldn’t be backwards. Choose the type of vinyl you are using and send it to the machine.

Once the design was cut, I weeded the vinyl and placed it on the mask where I wanted it. My intention was to have “Kindness” over the mouth area so that it almost looked like a smile. I used my Cricut EasyPress Mini to adhere the design to the mask.

It pressed smoothly and quite perfectly. After trying the mask on I realized although I liked the placement, the top portion felt a bit bare. I went back into Cricut Design Space and added a heart to the design, which I then sent to the machine to cut out of foil iron-on.

I pressed that in place so that it would be over the nose area.

My custom face mask with iron-on vinyl was done and super cute! I gave this one to my daughter and she loves wearing it. You can watch a video below for a clearer idea of how I created this custom mask:
