When Frog Tape asked if I wanted to try out their new Shape Tape I immediately said yes. I mean, how cool is it to be able to use a special tape to create fun designs easily? Shape Tapeâ„¢ comes in three pre-cut patterns: Chevron, Wave and Scallop. You can stagger the placement of the tape, or vary the widths, for personalized and unique designs.
Shape Tape™ is treated with patented PaintBlock® Technology, which is a super absorbent polymer that reacts with the water in latex paint and instantly gels to form a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape, which helps prevent paint bleed.
The best part of the Shape Tapeâ„¢ is the slit liner on the back of the tape the makes application easier. All you do is remove one half of the liner, position the tape and remove the other half. Shape Tapeâ„¢ is available at participating Lowes and Walmart locations, and all Menards stores across the United States. Check out this video for more info on Shape Tapeâ„¢:
However, I didn’t actually use my painters tape with paint… I used it to create a glass etched Cookie Jar using glass etching creme!
All I did was apply the Shape Tapeâ„¢ to the glass jar, running vertically. You can measure, but I chose to eyeball it.
To assist you in lining the tape up correctly the tape has little lines – I used those as a guide, again, just eyeballing it.
The next step is to apply the etching creme. Follow the directions on the bottle. I forgot to get a picture of creme covering a stripe, but below you can see where I had wiped away all but the bottom portion.
I chose to do one strip at a time, removing the right piece of tape as I finished each stripe.
In order 10 minutes I walked away with a fun, custom cookie jar!
The Frog Tapeâ„¢ Shape Tapeâ„¢ worked perfectly with the etching creme and I love the pattern it created in the glass. I can think of so many other fun ways to use this tape – add a fun border to a plain bathroom mirror, use it on bedroom walls, or make a fun serving tray!

Come back tomorrow to see the other side of this jar… because this is actually just the back side of it!I wanted it to be a bit whimsical and fun and can’t wait to show you what I did!
I love this tape so much! And I love what you did Kim. Super cute!
This turned out beautifully! I’m going to have to keep this in mind for holiday gifts! 🙂
I just used etching cream for the first time earlier this year and I love it! That tape is super fun, I will have to look for it.
