Easter is early this year – March 27! That’s just a few short weeks from now. One of my resolutions this year is to be more intentional. To think more of others and to show people how special they are to me and my family. One way I can accomplish that is to put together sweet little care packages for friends and loved ones. Today I’m going to show you how you can create a DIY Gift Bag Easter Basket. It can be filled with all sorts of sweets and treats and be tailored to the gift recipient. So easy to customize!

DIY Gift Bag Easter Basket Gift IdeaI went to Walmart and picked up some paper gift bags – it is important that they are a thicker paper that won’t rip easily. While there I also picked up some delicious sweets to add to my Gift Bag Easter Baskets. I ended up with a bag of M&M’s® Easter Sundae (exclusively available at Walmart for a limited time!), Starburst® Jellybeans, a super delicious looking DOVE® Milk Chocolate Easter Bunny and a smaller DOVE® Solid Milk Chocolate Bunny, Easter M&M’s® Milk Chocolate and Hubba Bubba® Bubble Tape – all of which can be found in the seasonal Easter aisle.

DIY Gift Bag Easter Basket TutorialDIRECTIONS:

Trim the bag down to size. When the bag is folded, I cut right above the bottom flap.

DIY Gift Bag Easter BasketNext, poke a hole on either side of the bag – about 1.5 inches from the top. Using a length of ribbon, poke it through the hole and knot to secure in place. Do the same for the other side, creating the handle of the basket. If you want the handle to be able to stand up and stay in place, try using a wired ribbon.

DIY Gift Bag Easter Basket TutorialEmbellish as desired. For the plaid basket, I cut the yellow strip off from the unused portion of the bag and glued it in place around the basket. You can also use washi tape, stickers, etc.

DIY Gift Bag Easter Basket TutorialNow that you finished your paper basket, it’s time to fill it! I add some Easter Grass first and then fill it with lots of yummy treats. In addition to the one’s I purchased, other great fillers are Easter Mixed Brand Chocolates -think SNICKERS®, DOVE®, M&M’s®, TWIX®, MILKY WAY®, 3 Musketeers®, Skittles® filled egg or tube – these are pretty common favorites. You can also go with a theme basket – add popcorn with some M&M’s® and a movie gift certificate! Get creative and think about your recipients likes.

DIY Easter BasketI also put together a fun little bag topper for the Jellybeans, which I placed in a sandwich bag and added the topper to. I shared the free printable Magic Easter Beans bag topper yesterday. I also purchased some carrot shaped eggs and filled them with the Easter M&M’s®.

DIY Gift Bag Easter Basket TutorialBoth of my baskets were easy to make and didn’t cost a whole lot, but should bring a smile to someone’s face, which is the goal!
