I decided to set up a homework station for my kids this school year in hopes that we won’t have any evenings of “I can’t find a pencil!” or “I need an eraser and they’re all gone!” or “This pencil isn’t SHARP!”.  We’ve all had them, right? My hopes are that this Homework Station will help decrease those nights.

How to set up a homework station

What is a homework station? Basically, I used a wicker basket that I already had in my home and then purchased school supplies and organized them within the basket.

Each child received a pencil box and inside they have:

The boxes were then placed inside the wicker basket along with three folders where they can keep any homework for the week – my two younger kids will receive Fundations that stay home for 1-2 weeks at a time and this will be the perfect place for them to store it.

I also placed a ruler, an electric pencil sharpener, school glue,  and scissors in the basket, along with my School Binder that I shared a few weeks ago. Lastly, I picked up an unfinished wood apple for $.77 at Walmart, painted it black and used chalk to write on it, just to finish off the station.

I’m feeling super confident that together my kids and I are going to have an awesome school year with our new systems in place!

UPDATE: Our homework station worked so well last year that we are continuing to use it this year. I stopped by my local news station and shared our Homework Station set-up:
