I need help from all of you creative people:
My aunt has asked me to do something with all of the sympathy cards that she has received (after losing my cousin to HLHS). The family has received hundreds of cards and she wants to keep them and read through them from time to time. But there are so many, I don’t think a scrapbook is practical. Do you have any ideas?
I have thought of cutting the cards up and keeping the notes people wrote, but I’m not sure if that is the best way to do it.
What are your thoughts? Feel free to share this with others you think may have some great ideas!
Thank you for your help!!!
What about using a photo/card/shoe box and making index cards to go inside to keep all of the cards alphabetized.
Or photograph/scan the hand-written message inside each card and upload them to a site such as Shutterfly and have a book made out of all the special messages. You could include a few photographs of your cousin too.
The bound book sounds like a great idea. You could possibly do some sort of collage of the cards fronts on the front of a book and then do just the messages on the inside. That’s a tough one!
Hi, this is pretty esay to do actually. Not sure how to explain without pictures though. Take 2 lengths of twine (or ribbon for a nicer effect)punch two holes each right along the crease of each card on the front & the back. Run the 2 lengths of twine from the front of each card to the middle & then out from the back, into the second from the front, out from the back & so on, until you have all the cards hanging from 2 twine strings. Hold the front loose ends together & back loose ends together & pull the twine, puching all the cards tobe one big stack of cards. Pull twine taut & tie all loose ends together right between the front of the 1st card & the back of the last card. This creates an accordian like effect in the round. & you can look at each card when you want to & display this on a counter top. As the cards fan out in a round it can stand by itself. I’m not sure if my details are clear. Hope this helps.. 🙂
I made our wedding scrapbook out of all the cards we received. I cut out pieces of each card front and even used some of the inside verses for much of the album. I then cut-out each handwritten sentiment and/or signature and have a pocket in the back of the album where all these are stored.
It’s really personal and I love that the cards aren’t stored in the file cabinet in a folder.
I’ve taken to saving many other cards from all occasions and saving them for scrapbooking. When you buy the elements at the store for album-making…it really adds up. This is just a great way to “repurpose”, if you will, and seriously we’ll get some really gorgeous cards that I hate to dispose of.
i would just punch a hole in the top and put a ring on them, so you can easily look through them.
