My children are getting a wood kitchen set for Christmas (Shhhh!). So I have been on the lookout for the perfect play food to go with their set. I decided to start saving some of our food containers that they can use for their set. The small cereal boxes, small velveta cheese boxes, baby food jars, pint sized milk cartons. These are all perfect items for a kitchen set and can be easily replaced if stepped on! Just tape the boxes shut and off your child goes. And of course I have seen lots of tutorials out there in the blogosphere on how to make felt play food – there is a Felt Food Round-Up over at One Pretty Thing. So I may have to start a production line on bacon, eggs, toast and more!
What have you done for your childrens kitchen sets?
My little guy is obsessed with restaurants, he will correct you if you call the house a house, it’s a restaurant. So we were thinking of getting a kitchen set for him for Christmas. This is a great idea for food items. He has some plastic play food now, but he’s all about realism so I’ll have to start saving some containers soon!
I did the same with the play food, but with the cardboard stuff, I stuffed it with newspaper and taped it shut with packing tape. It has held up for a couple of years!!
