Do you have a TMNT fan in your house? I LOVE that these green dudes are back in style. I grew up on them! I still remember running off the bus and heading to the living room with a snack to relax and watch a little Turtle Power. My son is a fan, but my nephew is a MEGA-FAN. Seriously, I gave him a pair of my sons hand-me-down TMNT PJ Pants and he went bonkers. He was so excited. I think I scored Aunt-of-the-Year with that little move. But I’m not content with that title, so I’m going for Aunt-of-the-Decade. And how am I going to accomplish that? Well, hello DIY TMNT Wall Decor:
As part of the Make It: Fun 2014 Design Team, FloraCraft sent me a box of goodies and challenged me to come up with a gift idea. These TMNT Wall Hangings were the result. And they were seriously SO EASY to make. Want to learn how?
Supplies Needed:
STYROFOAMâ„¢ Foam Discs – Mine were 10″
1″ STYROFOAMâ„¢ Balls
Small amount of Fleece in the color of your Turtle – I used red and orange scraps
Green Spray Paint
Black Sharpie
Black Paint
White Paint
Hot GlueThe first step is to spray your STYROFOAMâ„¢ discs green. Make sure that you don’t get too close with the spray or it will eat your styrofoam. I did about three coats on the front and sides of the disc.
After the discs are dry, it is time to add the mask. I cut a strip of fleece fabric that was about 2″ tall. I held it up to the disc and trimmed to the desired length, leaving it about 3″ longer than needed so that I could create a little tail. Set the masks aside, grab your 1″ STYROFOAMâ„¢ Ball and cut it in half. I used the StyroCutter® Plus, which cuts foam like buttah!
Next, hot glue the mask in place.
Glue your eyes in place on top of your mask. (You could also use large google eyes). Add a pupil to the eyes with a black Sharpie. I then added black paint over that to fill in any holes.
The last step is to draw on the mouth and nose. I looked at several pictures of the Turtles to get an idea for how I wanted my mouth. I then used a Sharpie to draw it on and used paint to fill it in and make it darker. For the nose I did a stretched out, upside down U. Set aside to dry and you’re done! I think these will look great in my nephews room! I have some more discs so I might just have to complete the set. I think these would also be awesome TMNT Party Decor!
