Jenni, the amazing talent behind Willow Bean Studio, sent me a conceptual drawing and a photo of the swatches. I shared them with Olivia and she had a bit of input on the design/style of her Sofia the First dress, which I thought was terrific. Although Disney’s Sofia has a true princess ballgown, we decided to go with a shorter knee-length dress that was poufy and could TWIRL. Originally Jenni was going to include an embroidery of Sofia on the bodice, but Olivia nixed that because “Sofia’s dress doesn’t have that!”. Jenni’s concept came to life beautifully and I love that this dress can be worn any day of the week, or it can be dressed up and worn for special occasions. It really is the perfect dress!
The detail on the dress is amazing. I love the lace and rosettes that outline the bodice and top piece and the purple ribbon around the waist adds such a fun feel. I like that the front center panel has the flower shape and that Jenni was able to get the scallop bottom just like Sofia the First’s dress. And the crowning jewel is the big bow on the back!
After the dress came in I decided to surprise Olivia with a tea party on our front lawn, which is where I shot the photos you see in this post. Spring has finally arrived and it was 68 degrees with sunny skies so I laid out a blanket, grabbed a few stuffed animals, a tea set and some cookies. After I set everything up I called Olivia and her big sister Cassidy and told them to get pretty dresses on because Olivia’s friends were here for a tea party. She couldn’t figure out what “friends” had come for a tea party but she said, “OK, Mama! Let’s get me dressed in my Sofia the First dress!”
When we went outside she started to giggle when she saw who the friends were and set to work pouring everyone tea and handing out the cookies. We all drank our tea the proper way, with our pinkies up, and the girls (Olivia informed me I had to call her Sofia and Cassidy, Amber) practiced dancing the waltz and curtsying. Afterwards she told me that the “surprise tea party was the best ever” and thanked me profusely ending with a huge hug.
The Sofia the First Dress will be available via Willow Bean Studio, so make sure to follow her on Facebook so you will be the first to know when it comes out! And if your children have a Baptism or Communion coming up, keep Willow Bean Studio in mind. She creates amazing one-of-a-kind heirloom outfits utilizing your Wedding Dress or other special fabric. Seriously beautiful creations.
