My youngest daughter and my niece decided that they wanted to be Cheerleaders for Halloween this year. Living in Vermont, a traditional Cheerleader outfit will not cut it! Half the time it snows, the other half it rains, and 99% of the time we’re wearing coats and hats and mittens. So what’s a mom to do? DIY a Cheerleader Costume for Cold Weather, of course!
I picked up a fleece track suit for inexpensive at Walmart and used that as the base of the costume. Using Glow in the Dark Iron-On Vinyl from Expressions Vinyl (affiliate links for your convenience), I cut “CHEERLEADER” with my Cricut Explore and ironed it on to the back of the jacket.
My daughter decided she wanted to be a “Lake Monsters” Cheerleader, our local Minor League Baseball team. I uploaded the Lake Monsters logo to Cricut Design Space and cut it out of pink sparkle vinyl, which I ironed on to the front of the jacket. I also cut the logo out of the glow in the dark vinyl and added it to the leg of the pants.
Lastly, I cut her name out of pink vinyl and put that on her sleeve.
To finish the costume I added a big hair bow for her hair, some DIY Grocery Bag Pom-poms and DIY yarn pom-poms for her shoes. Simple, inexpensive, realistic and best of all, warm!
Tell me, what are your kids going to be this Halloween? Are you DIYing their costume? I’d love to see a picture – share with me on my Facebook page!
