Do you have a grade schooler in your house? Then most likely you’ve at least heard of Pikachu before. My 2nd grader has TONS of Pokemon cards – it’s big at his school where they love to trade cards on the bus and playground. Each Christmas we make several ornaments for the tree out of clay, so this year I decided to make my son a Pikachu Clay Ornament. He was pretty excited when I showed it to him… but his little sister was even MORE excited! They both said it would be awesome to have this little cutie on the tree this year.
If you have a Pokemon fan, you can make this ornament pretty easily, with minimal tools.
Clay in Golden Yellow, Red, Black and White
Clay Tools (or a knife, toothpick and rolling pin)
Next I squished in the sides a bit to get the shape of Pikachu’s head. Next I rolled out a second, smaller piece of yellow and cut out the ears. I placed them up against the head where I wanted and then lightly rolled over all the pieces, making them stick to the head. You may need to flip it over and do the same for the other side.
Next I rolled out a super thin piece of black clay and cut it into two pieces so they would fit just the tips of the ears. I laid one on top of the yellow ear and carefully worked it around the edges and underneath and then lightly rolled it into place with a rolling pin. Do the same for the other ear.
Lastly I rolled a very thin piece of black into a mini snake and carefully with a pointy clay tool worked it into a sort of W shape. I used the tip of my finger to pick it up and place onto Pikachu’s face and lightly rolled into place.
