Hi, it’s Tisa from Just My Little Mess to show you a quick and really easy summer project to share with your kids. I loved making DIY Jello Lip Gloss when I was younger, Have you ever made homemade lip gloss? It’s rather easy and today I’m going to show you how!
How to Make Your Own Lipgloss at Home
- Jello (any flavor)
- Lip Gloss Containers
- Coconut Oil
- Petroleum Jelly
- Measuring Cups and Measuring Spoons
Directions
Scoop out the coconut oil and petroleum jelly into a microwave-safe bowl using a 1 to 1 ratio.
(We used 1/2 cup each, and it makes a lot)
Place the bowl into the microwave for 30 seconds and then mix the contents with a spoon until almost smooth. Make sure that the Jello dissolves as much as possible to ensure that the lip gloss becomes as smooth as possible.
Using a separate bowl, measure out 4 teaspoons of the oil and jelly mixture and 1 teaspoon of the powdered jello. This amount fits my lip gloss containers perfectly.
Let them set up overnight and you have DIY lip gloss! Please note that these will not add color to your lips, they do however have a slight flavor. Want more flavor? You can add more jello to make the flavor more intense.
This is a fun project for all ages (with supervision, of course)! Will you be giving this easy lip gloss recipe a try?
Can I use 1 cup of vaseline insteadof using half and half? Would any oils be a replacement to the coconut oil? (canola, olive, vegetable?)
Hi there, you would want to click on over to http://www.justmylittlemess.com/ and ask Tisa that question, as she is submitted this to me as a guest post. Best of luck!
I love lip glosses going to have to try making these myself.
Question : the coconut oil is that in solid form or liquid? I’m excited about trying this fun activitie just want to get it right. Thanks
Coconut Oil is actually both depending on the temperature! But for this tutorial, Tisa scooped out a 1/2 cup in solid form and then put it in the microwave to liquefy, along with the petroleum jelly.
Where did you find the containers?
You can find the containers at most craft stores.
The lip gloss containers can also be found at the Dollar Tree store. We bought ours from there yesterday.
Thanks for the tip!
Mine did not set and remained grainy. Is there any specific reason why?
This was a guest post by Tisa from http://www.justmylittlemess.com/ – you’ll want to reach out to her with your question.
Hi Elizabeth. The jelly should be in powdered form else it will be grainy. Mine is setting now (fingers crossed- mine is grainy and pass it’s best before ????). I added couple of sweet orange essential oil drops.
You can also use kool-aid packets
Just made these for my son’s Market Day! We found that mixing just a small amount of hot water with the jello mix intensified the colors, and also dissolved the powder, alleviating some of the grainy consistency. He can’t wait to sell them!
I have tried this recipe. They turned out well. How long do you think it will last without a baacterial problem? Also, do you think beeswax would help as a preservative.
I would recommend reaching out to the author of the post: http://www.justmylittlemess.com/ She submitted this as a guest post on my page. Thank you!
Question……
When I follow the instructions……. exactly how many little lip gloss containers does this recipe fill???
Hi Dale, This was a guest post. You would will want to click over to the guest authors site and ask them this question. Thanks!
Kim
I used 19 little containers
Thank you for sharing! Hope it turned out well.
I don’t use petroleum jelly. I do make non-petroleum jelly. I’ll be making this with my non-petroleum jelly. I don’t put petroleum products on if in my body. Even when my dermatologist told me to use it on a skin cancer that was removed, I made my own.
