My daughters Mermaid Room Makeover was a HUGE hit, and one of her favorite elements was the DIY Magnetic Busy Board I made her for the back of her door.
This is a super simple project, made easier with my Cricut Explore and some printable magnet sheets. Want to make one? This is how I did mine:
Supplies Needed:
Magnetic Dry Erase Board – mine came from Walmart for $6
Printable Magnet Sheets – Avery sells some, as does Staples and other office supply stores
Velcro 3M Command Strips
I designed the mermaids and uploaded them to Cricut Design Space (my mermaids should be available soon in the Make It Now section of the Cricut site, I’ll link to it when they are available), but you could do this with any theme using images from the Cricut Image Library!
Set the size of your canvas to the size of your dry erase board so that you know what sizes to make each element.
Once you have all the pieces you want, go ahead and print then cut them out – visit Cricut for details on how to do that.
Lastly, I used Velcro 3M Command Strips to adhere the board to my daughters door. This way it is removable and she can bring it on car trips if desired!
Where did you get the outfit of the day wall sticker?
I made it using my Cricut Explore, a craft cutting machine!
Do the magnet sheets come in color?
I’ve only seen them in white.
How did you get your mermaids in color?
The magnet sheets get run through your printer, so you print right on it before cutting.
Then the machine knows how to line up when it goes to cut it? I am getting one from Santa and trying to figure some fun things out to do with it before I get it:)
Yes, there is a feature that allows you to print and then cut. So basically it prints out on your printer, direct from Cricut Design Space. The print includes guides for the machine. Once printed, the material gets placed onto the mat and loaded into the Cricut. Design Space prompts you on everything, so it is not hard at all. I don’t personally have a tutorial, but there are lots out there on how to use the print then cut feature! Have fun with your new toy. I LOVE my Cricut.
PS – What machine are you getting? The new Maker?
