Time again for me and a bunch of my blog buddies to share some fun themed crafts with you. This month we chose a Citrus theme. I have to admit, this one threw me for a bit of loop. It finally struck me while we were camping and I was looking for some fun things to do with the kids. Foam Dough! Have you ever tried foam dough? It is all sorts of fun. It’s sort of like sand, but it can be formed and molded really easily. The kids have tons of fun with it… and it is normally white. B.O.R.I.N.G. So we’re kicking it up a notch by turning it into CITRUS FOAM DOUGH!
I started with a regular Foam Dough recipe and added a packet of Jello mix! Not only was it pretty, but the orange one was really fruity smelling! Find the recipe below and read on to see what we did with it once we were through! This makes a terrific Summer Boredom Buster for kids!
Unscented Shaving Cream
Packet of Jello Mix
Combine one cup shaving cream, one cup corn starch and a packet of jello mix in a bowl
With your hands, slowly mix together until you can easily mold the dough so that it holds it form, but crumbles when poked
My kids played with this dough for about 45 minutes. My daughter “baked” with it, using baking cups and bowls. My son used his cars and drove through it and turned it into mountains and such.

After they had their fill of the citrus foam dough, we turned it into Oobleck! Have you ever made Oobleck? It is so much fun. I played with it all the time when I was young. My aunt even filled a kiddie pool with it one time! To turn the Foam Dough into Oobleck, all you do is add water – slowly. Keep adding until the Oobleck is firm when pressed, but turns to liquid when it is not in motion (about 1 part foam dough to 1.5 – 2 parts water). The easiest way to test it is to try to turn it into a ball in your hand. Roll it into a ball, if it holds its shape while rolling but liquefies when you stop, you are golden! If it is too melty (of course that is a word!), add in some more corn starch.
