For over a year, the wall behind my king-size bed has felt bare and lifeless. I’ve scoured Etsy and Pinterest for inspiration, but nothing quite clicked. Then, while giving my daughter’s room a Cottage Core makeover, I stumbled upon the perfect solution! I fell in love with the charming decor above her bed and decided to recreate a similar look in my own space. It’s a mix of purchased and DIY Boho Decor and I am really happy with the end result.

DIY Boho Decor

I initially envisioned a single, long shelf spanning the wall, but couldn’t find one with the right dimensions. Impatient to get started, I opted for two 48-inch floating shelves instead.

Next, I hit up Amazon and TJ Maxx for decorative pieces to adorn the shelves. But the real fun began with my DIY Boho Decor creations! I grabbed some macrame cord and got to work.

DIY Macrame Wall Hangings

The first item I made is this Macrame Garland:

Simple Macrame Garland with Wood Beads

I followed a simple tutorial from Cuckoo 4 Design to create a beautiful and easy-to-make garland.

DIY Geometric Wood Wall Hanging

Once the garland was hung, I added a touch of texture with a string of wooden beads. To complete this section, I used my Cricut to create a geometric wall hanging. I cut half-moon shapes from thin wood sheets and attached them to twine with hot glue, adding beads between each piece. I finished it off with a playful tassel. If you have a Cricut, you can recreate this look using my Design Space file!

After that piece was done, I moved onto the Lark’s Head Knot Macrame Wall Hanging. This was a breeze! I made two swoops using the Lark’s Head knot technique – the back cord was 16 inches, and the front was 14 inches. A string of wooden beads and a hanging cord completed the look.

Boho Bedroom Decor

And lastly I created a Macrame Leaf Wall Hanging, something I’ve been wanting to make for ages! I do wish I had some green macrame cord so I could have some added splash of color, but I was working with what I already had and again… impatient! Maybe I’ll redo the smaller leaf in the future!

If you haven’t made Macrame leaves, then I recommend doing so. They are so simple! I created two leaves, one about 5″ wide and the other 10″ wide. I added those to a wood dowel, and then added a Lark’s Head knot, attached some beads to the length, added a couple of knots and called it a day.

Shelving Above Bed

This DIY project has breathed new life into my bedroom, and I’m thrilled with the results. What do you think? Do you love Boho Decor? Are you a fan of macrame artwork?

I added a section to my Amazon storefront that has all of the items I used from Amazon so you can recreate the look!
