A fun fact about me that many of you do not know: I work at a newspaper and marketing agency. This means I have a vested interest in newsprint. One thing that I’ve been thinking about since I began working at the newspaper was all of the fun and unique things that can be made from it! An obvious use that most people know about is using it for packing, but it can also be used in paper mache, for wrapping presents, making ornaments, and more. Today I’m going to share how I created half circle paper trees and used them to decorate Christmas cards. Get the newspaper out of the recycle bin and upcycle them into something new!

Paper Christmas Trees

Trees that are made from half circles cut from newspaper are perfect for Christmas time. I used them on cards, but they can also be used as garland, on packages or even turn them into ornaments! Plus these half circle paper trees can be customized further by distressing them a bit with ink or paint to get a vintage vibe. Want to learn how to make them? They’re really very easy and look so whimsical when complete! This is a great craft for kids to make too – could you imagine adorable little fingerprint bulbs added to the trees?

Fold the flap back over towards the right, lining the fold up with the edge of the repeat.

Fold the flap back and forth until the tree is formed.

Using glue dots or a glue stick, secure the flaps in place.

Look through the paper until you find a brown color. Cut a small rectangle out of the brown. Glue onto the bottom of the tree for a trunk.
