This year for Halloween the kids and I hopped onto Oriental Trading to come up with some costume ideas. Some years we do homemade Halloween costumes, others we do store-bought. It just depends on what they want to be, and mostly, how busy I am!

Storm Trooper Kids Costume

This year as we browsed the huge collection of Halloween Costumes, the kids were quick to make their decisions. My son chose to go as a Storm Trooper. As soon as he saw the many Star Wars Costumes he zeroed in on that theme. He’s gone as a Jawa in the past, so I was mildly surprised that he chose another Star Wars character. His excitement was obvious once that costume came in and he put it on and posed for photos, saying “I have another idea, or here’s another pose, Mom!” I already had some great shots but wasn’t going to say no, so we have lots of fun photos of him in his costume!

The costume looks great and fits him well with enough room to fit warm clothes underneath. If you live in a cold climate, check out my Cold Weather Trick or Treating Tips and Tricks! The “armor” is a foam material that is sewn to the body suit. The helmet is 2 pieces – a front and back that velcros in the middle. I actually got him a different Storm Trooper helmet (pictured) because I was worried about the quality of the one that came with the costume, but I really didn’t need to. But since he is a huge Star Wars fan, he’s going to keep the helmet on his shelf as decor for his room, so it was money well spent! The costume came with the body suit, helmet and belt. He wants to make a gun sling so he can carry his Nerf Storm Trooper gun as well, so that will be our next project.

Supergirl Kids Costume

My daughter has been watching Super Girl on The CW, so I was not surprised when she chose to be Super Girl for Halloween. Of course the costume she picked is a skirt, which isn’t ideal for cold weather trick or treating. But no worries, I’m going to pick up some inexpensive red leggings to add to the ensemble. She’ll be able to add layers underneath the top portion and the costume boots will help keep her legs warm!  We ended up ordering a Large, which is made for 8-10 year olds. Length wise is great, though it’s definitely too big around the waist. But the belt that is included in the costume helps cinch everything in. The costume includes the dress, the boot covers, the belt and a removable cape.

If you’re looking for a great selection of Halloween costumes that are decent quality, then definitely check out Oriental Trading. We’ve used them for several years and I’ve always been able to pass the costume on to others, who have passed them down as well, even after wearing it trick or treating and to a Halloween party or two!
