Summer Blog HopOne thing I love to wear in Summer is anklets. I think they look so dainty and can dress up a pair of jeans and ballet flats. In honor of Summer, I decided to make myself a new anklet.

To make your own you will need:
(for your convenience, affiliate links have been used)

Sculpey Premo Clay
Thin Bead Wire
(2) Crimping Tubes
(1) Spring Ring Set
Pliers

Directions:

Condition the ClayFirst, condition a small piece of clay.

 Roll out clay

Roll out the clay – I went thin, a little under .25″.

Clay HeartI used my clay knife to free hand a heart. Remove the excess clay.

Smooth ClayI then used the knife to smooth the edges by pressing the flat side up against the edges of the heart.

Clay Heart AnkletUsing a toothpick or clay working tool, poke a hole on either side of the heart.

Place the clay onto a disposable tin pan and bake according to the directions on the box.

Beading WireWhile your clay piece  is baking, grab the thin bead wire and cut 2 pieces of wire – mine were about 8.5″ wide – your wire might be bigger or smaller depending on the size of your ankle. Fold wires in half.

Spring Ring ClaspFeed the ends of the wire through the spring ring clasp and bend over.

Add crimping tubeFeed the folded end of the wire through a crimping tube and slide it all the way down to the spring clasp, making sure all of the wire ends are through it and then squeeze nice and tight with pliers.

DIY AnkletNext, attach the other piece of the spring clasp set to the other wire the same way.

Clay Anklet TutorialOnce your clay heart is baked and cool, you will insert one of the wires through the front of the heart.

Heart Anklet TutorialThread the wire through itself and pull tight.

DIY Clay AnkletDo the same for the other side. Pull both wires nice and tight.

Now you have a super stylish ankle for Summer!
