Quick story about this photoshoot – Olivia, my daughter, is my little drama girl. She loves getting into character and usually directs the shoot. In order to get the shots I WANT, we go through many poses SHE WANTS. In the end, I usually end up with a mixture of both because she has fun ideas – including the front teeth in the shots above. So I thought it would be adorable to have her stand in the field in back of our house and get just the ears and the top of her head. Mind you these photos were taken back in September for a quick Halloween Costume Idea for Crafts Unleashed where I was a paid contributor. So the field was filled with Goldenrod and Ragweed. Olivia had never exhibited signs of allergies and neither my husband or myself suffer, so I confidently sent her in. And within one picture she says “Why am I so itchy?” We took one or two more and finally she said “Enough!” and walked out. I had gotten a cute shot, but she wasn’t smiling so I tried to conjole her into going back in. Luckily my daughter is strong-willed (I know, not usually an “I’m lucky” statement!) and refused to go back in because she knew something wasn’t right. As we were walking back to the house I noticed welts on her back, and her skin was really red. This is how we learned that she is susceptible to the pollen in the weeds touching her skin. We took care of it quickly with some antihistamines and Calamine Lotion, but boy did I feel awful! I told her how proud I was of her sticking up for herself when she knew something wasn’t right and that I hope she will do that in all situations.
