Darice has come out with a new Sock Friends Puppet Kid’s Craft Kit and my kids are in love! These craft kits come with everything you need to make the sock puppet, and it they are fairly easy to create. My 5 and 6 year olds were each able to make theirs with little to no help from me.
After making the first sock puppet, we did decide to break out the glue fun for the rest just because I found it easier then the adhesive stickers that were included in the kit. This is by no means necessary, just my preference. My kids are both old enough to use a low-temp glue gun with my supervision so it works for us.
Even though they are kits, they still are easy to customize and to make how you want. For example, my daughter made the princess puppet, but didn’t like the fact that she didn’t have a tongue. We simply cut a tongue using some red felt that I had on hand and voila – Princess is happy with her Princess Sock Puppet!
Sock Friends Puppets are available at Joann’s, Michaels, Meijers and other independent retailers. Check out all the awesome kits:
All of those options PLUS a Hanging Door Puppet Theater so that the kids can put on tons of plays with their new sock puppets:
The theater comes with hooks that you can attach to your door and ties are attached to the theater so you can tie it to the hoops. Our theater was actually missing one of the tie backs for the curtain, so I cut a small length of ribbon from my stash, not a huge deal. And don’t you love the chalkboard so that the kids can write the name of the play? Brilliant! My kids also love the iOS Sock Friends Puppet App that is available – we have the free version, but there is also an upgraded paid version.

We’ve made a few others as well and they are all really cute. I really like the Owl. 🙂
They all look great! My girls would have fun with any of them!
So cute Kim! We’ve loved playing with ours too!!
