Expressions Vinyl sent me a box of Red, White and Blue Vinyl and challenged me to make something patriotic… and when I opened the package and saw the polka dot vinyl I almost fell down. I’ve never seen polka dot vinyl. I LOVE polka dots! I was so excited to put it to use! I knew that I wanted to make a sign because I had a 12×12 wood plaque that’s been hanging out in my craft room forever. I also knew that I wanted to use a map of the USA because I thought it would look adorable in the blue polka dot. So I got to work painting the plaque white and setting the map up in Cricut Design Space. Then I started brainstorming what I wanted for words on the map. It came down between “Land of the Free” and “Land that I Love”. Since I wasn’t able to make the decision on my own I hit up the interwebs to see if there was a saying I liked better… and I came across this Land that I Love image on Pinterest, which turned out to be a Silhouette file. It was similar to what I had in mind so I created something very similar for my Cricut Explore. Follow along as I show you how I made this super simple Patriotic Land that I Love Sign, and if you have a Cricut, I’m sharing the file so that you can make your own! Plus head to the bottom of this post for a giveaway and to see what other creative bloggers did with their box of goodies!
12×12 Vinyl – two coordinating colors (I used Dark Blue and White Polka Dot Indoor Vinyl and Dark Red Glitter Indoor Vinyl)
Paint the wood plaque the color of your choice. I went with white.
Using Cricut Design Space, either open my “Land that I Love” file or create your own by inserting a US Map image and adding your text. Once your file is ready, send it to your machine.
Once the vinyl is cut, weed it.
Transfer the red vinyl pieces over to the map.
Use transfer tape to place the vinyl onto the sign.
Once the vinyl is in place, hot glue a length of patriotic ribbon and a flower to the bottom of the sign.
I am so in love with this piece! Now if only it matched the rest of my decor… this beauty will be finding a home with my son’s teacher.
