Milk and Chocolate Party Dessert TableMy son’s 7th birthday party was yesterday and we had an absolute blast. We were blessed with beautiful weather and many friends and family that were able to come celebrate with us. My son picked a Chocolate theme and I had a ton of planning it. I’ve made all of the design elements available as free printables that you may download at the bottom of this post.

We had a bit of a crisis five minutes before the party started… the chocolate fountain splashed EVERYWHERE! I was trying to level it and the wind came up… and I don’t really know what happened other than the food, the bamboo skewer vase, the WHITE table cloth and the burlap were all covered. I ran into the house yelling and my husband came running thinking I hurt myself! I ran to my linen closet, grabbed out a {wrinkly} white sheet and the two of us went outside and had to remove everything from the table and RESTYLE it in 5 minutes. I was literally finishing as the party-goers were arriving. I was so scared to start the fountain again! But it all worked out, I snapped this quick picture and then the guests descended on the fountain and it was a mess again. LOL.

In my family you can’t have a chocolate party without a chocolate fountain (big shout out to my SIL for letting me borrow her fountain!). I had strawberries, bananas, grapes, cherries, graham crackers, pretzels and marshmallows to dip in the fountain. I ended up not doing cupcakes so I used the toppers as food picks.

And of course ICE COLD MILK. I used Starbucks Frappuccino bottles for the kids cups and added bakers twine and a tag plus a striped straw with a milk mustache that I cut with my Silhouette CAMEO attached. I also saved the Frappuccino and put that in a pitcher for adults to enjoy. I added ice to the tray to help keep everything chilled in the heat. I did have to keep adding more ice because it was H.O.T. I purchased the crate for $9 at Walmart and stained it with my favorite stain – The Minwax Wipes, which should be in stores soon!

Milk Bar at Milk and Chocolate PartyFor favors I knew I couldn’t send the kids home with a bunch of candy since I was already sugaring them up so much at the party, so I made some Chocolate Cloud Dough. Have you ever made Cloud Dough? It is super easy and my kids LOVE it… and it is even MORE fun when it smells like delicious Chocolate!

Chocolate Cloud Dough

Fun and simple dough for kids to play with!

  • 7 Cups Flour
  • 1 Cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Cup Vegetable Oil

  • Combine all three ingredients in a large container.
  • Mix well.
  • Store in an air tight container

Perfect for playtime - add in cars, scoops, animals, etc for even more fun!
I put the Cloud Dough  and either a lizard or a car inside an ice cream container I purchased on Etsy. I decorated the containers with washi tape and labels. I also had baggies with a couple of mini-chocolate bars with custom wrappers and Hershey Lip Balm that I found at Joann’s for $1 each a few days before the party!

Chocolate Cloud DoughCustom Chocolate Bar WrappersI didn’t plan any activities this party and it was so nice for me! Usually I’m running all over and don’t really get to chat with our guests, but this time I was actually able to. I still was on the go a lot, but not nearly as bad! I had out the slip and slide, the baby pool for the littler kids and the big pool for the big ones. I also had water balloons, bubbles and a baseball and bat. The party was in my backyard so there was plenty for the kids to do – run around, play in the sandbox or the playhouse. The kids all had a good time and the adults all hung out in the shade chatting and laughing at all the antics of the kids. There also might have been an ice fight and a water fight… I can’t remember who got it started, but it may have been an adult!

Milk and Chocolate PartyChocolate Donut CakeMy son loved his Police Donut Cake and requested another. I was happy to oblige because, hello, it’s easy! I used a few of the mini bunting flags to make the cake topper.

I always am so appreciative of family and friends that are able to come up and celebrate our children with us! And I especially love when the kids say things like, “This is the best birthday party EVER!” Makes all my party planning and time-invested worth it!
