After surfing through all of Oriental Trading’s amazing selection of Halloween Costume’s, my son settled on this great Special Ops Ninja Halloween Costume. There were several Ninja options, but this one fit the style he was going for, so I placed the order and we waited the few days it took to get to us. Once it came in, he immediately put it on and ran to grab some weapons. He has the perfect light up foam sword that will double as a flash light, but he really wanted a pair of nunchucks. Of course that request got me brainstorming and after searching my craft room and the garage we came up with the perfect supplies for DIY Foam Ninja Nunchucks!

These are super easy to make and since they are foam, they are fairly soft so if they do end up hitting someone there shouldn’t be any injuries. And let’s be honest, that is totally going to happen when you hand nunchucks to a nine year old! If you have a little ninja that would like a pair of soft nunchucks, read on for how I put these together. Obviously, please create these at your own risk! Ensure the child knows to be careful with them so that no one does gets injured.

The first step is optional to create a colored nunchuck – roll the foam rollers in paint until completely covered. Set aside to dry.

Once the foam rollers are completely dry, cut a length of nylon rope and fold it in half. The final length should be about shoulder width apart. Secure both ends with a small amount of duct tape, and cut the folded edge (not shown in picture above).

Using another strip of duct tape, cover half of the original strip and then wrap it around the rope, twisting it tight.

DIY Foam Ninja Nunchucks - perfect for a halloween costume accessory! This was a fun project that my son and I were able to complete and he loves having this extra accessory to go with his costume. The costume looks great and fits him perfectly, with enough room for us to add some layers underneath for the inevitable cold, Halloween night that we will have here in Vermont. I do want to mention that the plastic mask that came with the costume was cracked when it arrived, which was fine for us because we have a black ski mask that works perfectly and will actually be better for the cold. Oriental Trading would have happily replaced the piece if I had so requested.

Zombie Girl Halloween CostumeI also ordered my daughters costume at the same time. She was even quicker at picking a costume than her brother! As soon as she saw this Zombie Girl Halloween Costume, she was sold. I was really impressed with this costume. It really looks great when you get it on. The velcro that holds the dress closed works perfectly – sometimes we’ve had issues with velcro on Halloween Costumes, but this one isn’t one of those! The tulle underneath is itchy, but sine Olivia will be wearing layers underneath, that won’t be a problem. The only thing to note is the belt that comes with the costume is black, not gray as shown in the listing, but we like the black better anyway.

Zombie Girl Halloween Costume and Make-UpOlivia’s make-up took about 3 minutes flat! I’ll be sharing a quick video tutorial for how we achieved this look later this week, so make sure to stop back by and check it out!

Hilarious story: As we were shooting these pictures the realtor brought a family to look at the house next door that is currently being built. Olivia walks around the corner all decked out as Zombie Girl and they all stopped to stare for a minute! Guess they weren’t expecting to see a Halloween Costume in the beginning of September. Wonder if they decided we were too odd to have as neighbors?!
