This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Gorilla Glue for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Have you ever crafted with duct tape before? We have and my kids love it. Your imagination is the limit! We’ve made top hats, checkerboards, bow ties, bracelets, rings, wallets and more! When Gorilla Tape challenged me to make something fun with their double-thick adhesive tape I went straight to my kids and asked them if they wanted to make something with me. My daughter jumped at the chance. I asked her what she wanted to create and she settled on a purse, though she didn’t believe me when I said we could actually make one! Read on to see how we used Gorilla Tape to make an adorable Minnie Mouse Purse! Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial This little character purse is water proof thanks to the weather-resistant shell of the tape, so no need to worry if you’re out and about and experience a little rain, which is what happened the first day Olivia wore it out! This duct tape craft took us about 30 minutes, start-to-finish, so grab a roll of Gorilla Tape, your mini-me and get started. Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial SUPPLIES:

NOTE: Although you CAN rip Gorilla Tape, I actually recommend using scissors so that you have a clean edge (at least for the assembly of the purse section).

First, we will create the head. Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial Measure and cut a 7″ length of Gorilla Tape. Lay it on a flat surface, sticky side up. Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial Measure and cut a 2nd 7″ length of tape. Overlap the first piece about 1/4″, again, sticky side up. Repeat two more times. Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial Next, measure and cut a 7″ length of Gorilla Tape. Lay it sticky side down onto the first strip of tape.  Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial Measure and cut a 2nd 7″ length of tape. Overlap the first piece, about 1/4″, again, sticky side down. Repeat two more times.

Repeat all of the steps until you have a 2nd rectangle. Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial Place a dinner bowl onto one of the rectangles and trace with a pen. Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial Using scissors, cut along the trace line.

Repeat for the 2nd piece, creating two head pieces.

The next step is to create the ears.

Measure and cut a 5″ length of Gorilla Tape. Lay it on a flat surface, sticky side up.

Measure and cut a 2nd 5″ length of tape. Overlap the first piece about 1/4″, again, sticky side up.

Next, measure and cut a 5″ length of Gorilla Tape. Lay it sticky side down onto the first strip of tape.  Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial Measure and cut a 2nd 5″ length of tape. Overlap the first piece, about 1/4″, again, sticky side down.

Repeat all of the steps until you have 4 rectangles. Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial Place the Gorilla Tape roll onto one of the rectangles and trace the inner circle with a pen. Using scissors, cut along the trace line.

Repeat for the other three pieces, creating four ear pieces.

Creating the strap. Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial My daughter requested a cross-body purse, so I cut a long length of Gorilla Tape – eye-balling her torso as I went. Our piece was approximately 24″. Lay it on a flat surface, sticky side up. Carefully fold the tape in half, creating a long, skinny strap.  Don’t worry if the ends of the tape don’t meet perfectly, you can trim it with a pair of scissors.

You should now have all of the pieces necessary to assemble the purse:  Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial Attaching the ears.

Lay one of the head pieces on a flat surface. Position the ears where you want them.Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial Using a short length of Gorilla Tape, attach the ear to the head piece.

Repeat for the second ear. Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial Lay the next two ears over the first, cut a short length of Gorilla Tape and lay it underneath the unattached ears, sticky side up (see photo).

Place the second head piece on top, rub above the ears ensuring the tape adheres.

You should now have two separate head pieces, both with ears attached. Set aside one.

Attaching the strap. Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial Position the strap over the ears and onto the head. Using a short length of tape, attach the strap to the head (see photo).

Assembling the purse. Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial Place the second head/ear piece onto the first, with the strap sandwiched between the two, lining the edges up as best as possible.  Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial With 2″ lengths of tape, attach half of the tape to one side of the head, right up against one ear. Flip the whole purse over and wrap the other half of the tape around and attach to the back of the head.  Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial NOTE: when I flipped the purse over, I cut a slit into the middle of the tape, which allowed me to fold half of the tape over and adhere to the purse and then fold the second half over, which avoided created wrinkles in the tape. Continue this process until you reach the other ear. Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial To secure the ear to the head of the purse I cut small strips of tape and attached them half on the head, half on the ear.

Repeat for all ears.

Adding a bow (optional). Gorilla Tape Character Purse Tutorial Cut a 7″ length of tulle from a roll.
