I shared with all of you last October that I lost my 20 year old cousin to his battle with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.
In her process of grieving/healing, his mother gave each of his doctors, nurses, family and close friends a star ornament to hang in his memory. Along with the ornament she gave everyone a copy of this beautiful poem his uncle wrote and read at Michael’s burial.
As I stated, I am very close with Michael’s family and wanted to honor him and remember him. I decided to showcase the lovingly made ornament all year long, so came up with this:
It is simple and understated and exactly what I wanted. I picked up an unfinished frame from Joann’s for $2, mod podged some scrapbook paper onto the frame and inside backing. I then glued the star on and displayed it in my entryway. I’ve been toying with the idea of picking up an embellishment that says “Cherish” to add to the bottom right corner, but we’ll see.
Please, take a moment to tell the ones you love how much you love them. You never know how much time you really have.

I couldn’t agree more with you! In the last 10 days, we’ve lost 5 people close to our family in some way.
April – I’m sorry to hear that. It is incredibly tough to loose someone close to you, especially when it is unexpected. You and your family are in my thoughts.

I think it is beautiful…what a wonderful way to remember!
So beautiful, and thoughtful.
I am so sorry for your loss but that is a great way to remember your cousin

Gorgeous!! Simple but gorgeous!
Oh Kim, this is so neat. This post is the answer to something for me. My dearest childhood friends father is dying of cancer. This is something that would mean so much for them. Thank you for posting.
I’m so sorry about your cousin. It is so hard losing our loved ones.
What a great way to remember your cousin! And a great reminder to all of us!
That is so cute. I love how simple it is. Come stop by my Favorite Things Friday Party if you would like to join in!
What a great way to honor his memory. Looks great on display. Thanks for sharing with Made it Monday! Jules
